Welded although working fine for a drift or drag only car I wouldn't recommend for street or grip.

There's a lot of added drivetrain stress from your axles to driveshaft and even tranny. The outer tire will ALWAYS travel a further distance than the inner while turning. Unfortunately everything has to fight trying to go different speeds while being forced by a welded diff to operate at the same resulting in one tire having to slip. Rear tire wear will be greater ALWAYS compared to any other rear end. Welded diffs came from drag cars back in the day that were meant for driving in straight lines.

They're awesome if you never have to turn or if its a track only drift car.

240SX VLSD.... it's works OK, not the best. better than an open diff but I prefer 1.5 or 2.0 diff... and like what’s been said welded diff is not the best for point-A to point-B driving but track use only.

Z32, J30, JDM vlsd, eh theyre all decent for their cost, but for a drift specific purpose i lke my welded.

I got into an argument recently on how "responsive" different diffs are.... Dude said that a welded diff isnt responsive enough????? WTF !????? If your looking for a full time full locking diff then weld it. But, then again, i welded mine specifically to be ready to go drifting any time any day..

You will NEVER get a differential as responsive as a welded one. Yea it may suck on trips or daily driving but like i said, if someone calls me and was all like "hey lets go drift" I'm 2 steps ahead and prepared for fun =)

I am the king of cheap speed. So far i have $500shell+$300susp.+$300wheels+$400 10k mi motor= $1500 in my car plus boosting it will end up costing me around $250-$350....

I fully agree with you on that one.... weld diff is the way to go if you want to be drift ready 24/7

I don't understand this drift ready thing? Vlsd, 1 way, 1.5 way and 2 way only work certain hours of the day? And do you have to schedule ahead of time for them to be ready when you want? Guess we need a press release to all pro drivers that they've been doing something wrong.

Yes actualy all other diffs aside from welded ones are 9-5 M-F 10-4Sat and closed on sundays..
I know, it sucks dont it =/

Welded ones are like a super prostitute... theyre ready, willing and able 24/7

MAIN POINT HERE IS THE COST... If you have the money to spend on a 1.5/2.0 then go for it!!! you'll like it a lot better than a welded.
