Techniques?

Hey what's up everyone? Does anyone have any drifting techniques they would like to share? I'm a big fan of clutch kicking/e-braking/ brake drifting. What tires do you guys recommend? I'm searching for super quite tires when I'm hitting the track. Check out Cooper tires. They are sooooooooooooooooo quite. It's ridiculi! Anyways here's a vid my friend and I made. Check it out~!

Alot of brake drifting and some weight transfers.

I don't drift, but all my friends do, like onevia drift...he's amazingly good at it.

This was taken at the fresno fairgrounds at one of the events. Super cool to have a place with nothing to worry about such as cops n such. Took me a whole to get the hang of it but once i did a few laps it was better.

Hahah man i used to drift this area (rio mesa) and once i told a few guys about it a whole bunch of cops showed up. Still a fun place though. I just saw the vid. Drifting the corner is tons of fun. The way ur friend was coming down i would suggest dive in faster and run in on 3rd gear, when he's reaching near the end shift to 2nd (this turn is wide) I usually use a brake drift technique or just go in fast and clutch kick that corner all the way through and end in 2nd gear. Watch out for center divider/lightpole/dirt on the side. If you go the other way it's much safer. In the rain check out the on ramp exiting onto childrens blvd. Charge in 4th gear hard and ride the brakes in. Shift to 3rd gear at the entrance of the turn and pitch the car with the gas. It's cool at the exit cause there's tons of room for error. Anyways, yea that place is awesome!

I prefer clutch kicking, but it depends on the tire i'm running and the pavenment. If im running a super slippery tire (hard compound -treadwear 500+) then I have learned my car well enough to kick it the very second it bounces off redline. If im using a more grippy tire then i will feint and initiate with a slight 1-1.5 second e-brake then follow it with a clutch kick. The only time i use braking is when im in third and around longer shallow corners (not full u-turns or 90's), Like if there is a slight to moderate curve before a larger full turn then i initiate with a braking then when i switch back i clutch kick ( if needed)..

Pretty much i always feint into a drift to get the weight transfer there to help get the back out.
Another way i have used to initiate when im doing long ass 3rd gear 60mph+ sweepers is: feint and ebrake so my back tires go off pavement just a tiny bit so i can clutch kick and initiate the sideways momentum right before i get back on track... basically not having the power to initiate the wheels spining at 60mph ish. I tend to drift a lot faster but alot more shallow than most people i drift with. i am more about getting as close as i can to an obsticle as fast as i can, then just goofing around.


The tires i ran for the longest time were: with 471whp/462 tq
Bridgestone Potenza RE01 (320 treadware)
215/40/17 on 17x9.5 flush (20mm spacer)fronts @ 58psi

Bridgestone Turanza ( the one with 660treadwear)
225/40/17 on 17x10 +? flush lol, rear @ 75psi

I ran the above setup for like .... 2 years and LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I changed to Nexxens when i couldnt afford the Bridgestones anymore, and i absolutely hate how unpredictable they are =/ I have had the same tire 3-4 times and each time they acted differently... ughhhh

i like hankooks alot too. they seem to be a harder compound tire that last a while.

How about People With Stock Engines and No Lsds that still gets the car Sideways?

I rocked an open diff for a while .... same techniques. Just try a tad harder lol

When you have low power, essentially, the smaller the contact patch the easier to get out, but sacrifice a tiny bit of control....

with just a stock KA i run 185 OR 195 width (rear) with a treadware at least 300 and up and @ 80psi

stock SR is fun with 225's toyo proxes (rear) ... dont remember treadware. it was like260 or something
It felt like i was driving a stock KA .. I LOVED IT!. it was WOT all day! (WOT= wide open throttle)

With different tires/power ranges you have to control with/depend a lot on good footwork.

471whp/462wtq KA...... 255 bridgestone Turanzas (rear) 1.2* rear camber with 320 treadware are FUCKIN BALLLLLLER!!!

When you get into high speed (top of 3rd) drifting then you really want to worry about front width/treadware. because then you have to worry about too much/not enough grip while "4 wheel drifting".

there is ALOT to take into consideration when drifting:
i.e. front camber, front caster, front toe, rear camber, rear toe, tire size, tire treadware, tire pressure
