No more KA-T...LSX Time!
I just started this forum, for local 240SX owners to get together, meet, etc.
I'll start it off with my build thread!
Alright, so I've had this car forever, and here's the progress.
First day I got it...stock suspension is so gay, and the rims are too
Then I noticed that the whole front support was bad, previous owners
Then I crashed it up a curb and the front support gave out, LOL
That's not even half of the damage. I needed a whole new support to fix it. So I got this:
Put it on the car...
And then the motor went BOOM
So I rebuilt it...and put the refreshed motor back in:
Then I picked up a spare KA24DE (The beginning of my KA24DET build)
NEVER PUT A KA IN THE BACK OF A 240!!

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
I then began building my new KA...
Ported head:
Eagle Forged Rods with ARP rod bolts
Cleaned up my intake manifold
8.6:1 Supertech Forged Aluminum Pistons
Had the block machined at Doug Rylee's Performance Engines

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
Tapped my oil pan for my turbo drain:
ARP main studs, new main bearings
And then I started assembling my engine...
Needle torque wrenches are useless, get a clicker:
Lube everything...
Rings must be file fit...
Before/After:
ARP main studs, eagle forged rods
Cylinder wall, you can eat off it

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
Traded my welded diff for a Z32 VLSD
Gaskets, ARP head studs...ARP hardware is the shit!
Pulling out my old KA...this is my friend Greg, he has a 240 as well
45 mins later
Crazy step-dad
Sad chuki....
Completed long block
No emissions whatsoever...
Thermal Intake Spacer
Changed my coolant, got an E-Fan
New clutch, Exedy

Installing my new clutch...
Gear oil smells like shit
Driveshaft out
Shifter out
Tranny out. Simple.
Stupid-ass XTD clutch
Cool-ass NEW clutch
Cleaned and painted my tranny
Got bored...and rolled on some paint:

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
New KA was having problems....
The problems it had were:
- Wires held together with solder and electrical tape, so I removed the electrical tape, re-soldered, and heatshrinked.
- Overheating issues, even after changing water pump. Changed thermostat, fixed.
- Negative battery terminal was s***, changed that.
- 1.5K idle, fixed that. It was the throttle plate screw.
Antifreeze, thermostat, heatshrink
Old terminal VS new
New tstat VS old

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
Changed out my old BROKEN ass knock sensor:
Routed my battery to the hatch
Then I boosted it....turns out the turbo was blown
Rebuild my throttle body cause it had a bad seal causing a massive boost leak
Extending my downpipe cause it was hitting the floorboard
Installed my new throttle body, then I had to set the TPS
Should be 0.50 with the plate closed:
And 4.00 with the plate open (3.99 is close enough)

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
I have (maybe it's gone, haven't checked after all the s*** i did) this annoying leak somewhere near the front timing cover. It's pretty small, but I don't like losing oil. It drips right on top of my power steering bracket.
At first I thought it might've been my power steering pump, so I replaced it, still leaks. Took off my dizzy, noticed that the o-ring was shot, replaced that, still leaks. I took off my front cover, and noticed some oil on the head gasket, where the bolt tightens the front cover to the lower cover. So HOPEFULLY that is my leak, I cleaned everything up and put hylomar as a sandwich in between the upper/lower timing covers / headgasket.
I also checked my valve clearance since I've put 8,000ish miles on the motor. Eight out of 16 valves were out of clearance. Lucky for me, I had some spare shims. Measured them up with a digital caliper, wrote the size on em, and then went to work. One of my exhaust shims was at .007.....it's supposed to be .013 - .016. Also since I had the front cover off, I painted it chrome. Lol. I want my whole intake manifold chrome as well, but I don't wanna take it off. Oh well.
Fixed all that shiz, and the engine is so quiet. Doesn't even sound like a typical noisy KA.
Started some body work:
These are a must
Fill in the scratches...
Wetsand it back down to fix any imperfections...
Prime it again..smoooooth
Then I began on the hatch

Haha not happening. I'm gonna run an S14 T28 so I need all my stuff. I'll sell you my FMU though, it's only been used for less than a mile LOL, and you have proof, you drove it while it was boosted for 2 days.

respect bro to the fullest i tried to boost my single slammer and ran into more problems than solutions so then i came on a deal for an SR. but ka-t's put down serious power when done right. iv talked with matt powers(formula D pro driver w/ a ka-t s14) and they have put mad work into there ka-t and reworked it again and again.

Haha. Yeah, I've had so many problems with this car. But that doesn't stop me from getting where I want it to be!

Yeah...if you boost a KA it has to be done right or problems just never stop. This time I'm doin it right. Glad to see an SR guy that respects KA's as well.

Thanks! I just did some body work on my driver fender, and passenger headlight cover. But I didn't take pics cause that's boring.

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
Installed my stock exhaust back on today. My old 3" exhaust is for sale!
Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
I cleaned my car for the first time in months...Still looks like shit LOL. Getting it painted as soon as I finish the body work.
Next parts on the mod list, then I'm gonna chill for a while:
Rear brake swap / altima rotors / z31 caliper brackets
Gloss black paint
ISIS 3871R turbo
Coilovers
Subframe Collars
Suspension Arms

Re: No more KA-T...LSX Time!
Zilvia.net, haha. I know exactly what parts I am looking for and what parts I need, so getting parts piece by piece is what I do. Much cheaper, as well.
But, there are some website I frequently use, which would be:
-Enjukuracing.com
-FRSport.com
-ATPTurbo.com
-Ebay.com (LOL)

I hate to be cheap and I know you get what you pay for but ebay does sell turbo kits for cheap. Ever bought a kit from there to start off with and then build up from there? All in all what could be the minimum parts you need to build a turbo kit?
